Colorado Inside Out - Feb. 23, 2007 - A Solution for future Amendment 41's

Colorado Inside Out has been looking at the Amendment 41 fight for several weeks. This is the first week that a solution to the root of the problem, citizen backed amendments to the Constitution, has been offered. Guests Dan Haley from the Denver Post and Lynn Bartels from the Rocky Mountain News join the panel.

The first clip from the 2/16/07 show is analysis of the Amendment 41 battle in the Colorado Legislature. It centers around the fact that members of the State House are working on a large bill that implement and clarify the law. Leaders in the Colorado Senate are proposing to implement Am. 41 as is, without any clarification. Meanwhile, state senators are attempting to blame all of the problems with Amenedment 41 on its key supporter, Jared Polis, who will likley run against current Sentate President, Joan Fitz-Gerald for the Democratic nomination of the second congressional seat.

The second clip examines Governor Ritter's first veto, HB 1072 which would have modified Colorado's Labor Peace Act. The veto was a major surprise because Ritter said he agreed with the bill in principle, but not in the way it was argued and presented.

This analysis takes a look at not only the current battle surrounding Amendment 41, but the impending showdown between Jared Polis and Colorado Senate President Joan Fitzgerald. At this point of the debate, no proposed fixes or implementations of the Ethics in Government Law have been proposed.
